WEEE Recycling

The WEEE Regulations of 2006 became law on the 1st January 2007
The W.E.E.E (Waste of Electrical & Electronic Equipment) regulations came into force on the 1st July 2007.

The regulations state that certain types of lamps need to be recycled. To fulfil these requirements all manufacturers and importers of these lamps will be responsible for the cost of this directive.
The major UK manufacturers have now established a joint venture, and have set up not-for-profit organisation called Recolight to deal with their obligations under this directive. It has been agreed that the cost of collection, recycling and administering of this scheme will be covered by a fixed cost that will be the same for any lamp falling within the WEEE Directive, this cost of this 'Levy' has been set at 15p per lamp (excluding VAT).

The lamps that will incur the charge are: Low Energy Lamps, Compact Fluorescents, Fluorescent Tubes, Metal Halide Lamps and Discharge Lamps.
